Re: LTO Tape goes missing

Nope it was not a Linux problem either, but a VMWare one, but since I bet more people than I have run into this. I Post the solution here as well: The core issue is that the device is incorrectly detected by VMWare: https://communities.vmware.com/thread/334987?start=0&tstart=0 http://kb.vmware.com/s...

SEP Spits out the correct tape?

Any idea why? Tapes are LTO and all are in the same pool. I have marked them "monday" through "friday" so that the person responsible for changing tapes do not mix them up. Yesterday the "monday" tape was in the drive but SEP spat it out. Looking at the log I see it identifying the tape as 00006 whi...

LTO Tape goes missing

Sles 11.2 64 running on VMWare ESXi 5.5.0 SP1 (upgraded from 5.1.0). Issue existed before upgrade, but before that it ran nicely for months. Tape is a SAS HP Ultrium 448 drive on the host. What happens is that lsscsi -g shows the drive, but suddenly /dev/nst0 is not there. Mt -f /dev/nst0 status say...

Re: Invalid set writer name?

Yes, that was it. Server should have an USB drive connected as F:, someone must have pulled it. Will investigate.

Re: Invalid set writer name?

Thanks. Where do I find the log for that particular task?

Found this

The source was set to F:/Daily, E:

No idea whatsoever where F:/Daily comes from? The server has no F-drive, changed to just E:, let's see what happens this evening.

Invalid set writer name?

Only one part of a job fails, ie other OES11 and Windows boxes backup fine, apart from a Win2012 one, where we get this message? Any ideas? The backup server ca be resolved from the win2012 box. Agent is running

Manually erasing a tape?

Hi!

I have ended up with two tapes that have the same name. How to I relabel? I have tried erasing the tape manually, by:

$ sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/nst0 bs=512 count=10

But it does not seem to help.

Automatically mail status file?

Hi! What is the easiest way to accomplish this? Ie to have the status file mailed to an admin when the schedule completes?

What does that error mean. I have done a test backup that went through, but with one error (open file). What should I do to be able to restore from such a job?
