Re: restore groupwise
So you have a GW backup which has likely been grabbed via tsafs from some sort of OES? And now you want to restore it to a CIFS share? If so, this likely won't work as the datastreams are totally different. The DB commands referenced allowed to restore a NSS backup grabbed from a NetWare source to a...

Re: MS SQL Server errors
while i'm trying to keep at least a mile distance to relational DBs: AFAIK, a DB in "simple recovery" mode MUST be backed up in "COPY" mode, attemps with "FULL" should fail by nature. If you're using "FULL" for let's say an entire SQL server you should get the message for all DBs in simple rec mode ...

Re: GUI connection error
How do you attempt to start the GUI? From the shortcut which was created during installation? If so, there an "-S" statement in the link. Maybe for whatever reason it points to "localhost" instead of the desired box's dns name or ip address? Sounds silly, but you never know. Otherwise you can always...

afterwards you might want to perform a quickcheck doing something like
sm_notify ALL_JOBS_DONE "Netware rules"
sesam profile has to be executed for this.

Re: Fail to browse the cluster resources (NSS Volumes)
in a functional SLP offset you shouldn't have to register any service manually. but anyway: for each NCP server object (which means both physical and virtual ones) there should be a corresponding slp registration for several services (e.g. bindery.novell, smdr.novell,...). in order to backup a clust...

Re: Fail to browse the cluster resources (NSS Volumes)
well, apart from the fact that you really should consider a proper SLP setup... you definitely need the sesam novell client on the first node (which is running the sesam server), too. so in your offset there should be one box with "sesam server" and "sesam novell client" and the other one with "sesa...

Re: Persistent device bindings
sorry, just forgot to update this thread. i've switched to udev links 6 weeks ago. no issues. sles11 doesn't need any further intervention to create the rules properly.

VDDK 5.1.1 Linux
Hi, regarding --snip-- Backup of VMs using VDDK 5.0/5.1 on Linux can fail occasionally. These are known issues in VDDK and VMware is still working on a new version to fix them. We advise to use VDDK version 5.0 on Windows as long as the problems in VDDK for Linux exist. SEP will inform you, when a n...

Re: Persistent device bindings
Hi,
there are multiple FC drives in this library, you never know which one will be nst0, nst1 or nstwhatsoever upon server reboot. while it's up for a year since its installation it's still 500k away.
thx

Persistent device bindings
Hi,
to get consistency in a library environment after reboots, would it be enough to simply replace let's say /dev/nst0 or /dev/nst1 in the GUI with the corresponding entries from /dev/tape/by-id or /dev/tape/by-path ?
This is SLES11, the default udev rules create the links properly.
