Using a Remote Device Server

We are wanting to use an offsite server to backup our disk backup done at our main office. I am assuming I would need to install the Remote Device server software on the remote server but is that all? Also what ports are needed to be opened on the fire wall? Is the transmission from server to server...

I am finding that my backups are having performance issues. We are doing disk to disk backup and only achieving at most 5GB/h. Our Sep sever is on a dedicated VMware box with 4GB of Ram and Dual Xeon processors I am trying to backup our NSS drives on an OES 11 Sp1 server also on VMware but with 8GB ...

I think I may have misunderstood. The appliance is a predefined installation program that is to be used on a dedicated server not a VMware - Right?
