Re: Remove all information about a job and erase media

Hi Will, set the EOL (End of Live) of the savesets (DataStore) or of the tapes (properties of the tape) in the past. Next purge the savesets and the metadata to the savesets will be deleted ( DataStore). Next time a tape media of the media pool will be requested, then "oldest" EOL free media will be...

Re: Not able to browse the resources (EXT3 , btrfs) volumes

Hi, sorry for the delay, I was out of office. It's the same with eDir user. The issue exist independently from sesam. Sesam use the same functions as tsatest do. So if tsatest doesn't work, sesam will also not work. My question is, is the issue a misconfiguration in my environment or is it a bug ? C...

Re: Regarding incremental backup and restore

Hi all, SEP support the mtime (modification time). If the content of a file is modified, the file will backed up by an DIFF or INC backup. It seems, that there is an issue with the ctime (at the moment). The issue is under investigation. If the content of moved or renamed files is unchanged, the fil...

Re: Not able to browse the resources (EXT3 , btrfs) volumes

Hi, it's a ext3 FS, I create the ressource via nssmu. The NCP volume works fine, the virtual NCP server is visible with slptool etc. I can migrate / online / offline the resource, user access is also possible. The problem exist independent from Sesam. The Novell TSA tools (tsatest, de) are unable th...

Re: Not able to browse the resources (EXT3 , btrfs) volumes

Hi, yes, it's possible to backup non NSS NCP volumes via SMS. Sesam prevents the browsing of non NSS filesystems in case of backup type "NOVELL NSS File System". You can create a backup task, select "Backup type" = "NOVELL NSS File System" and add the "Source" (path) to your NCP volume manually. The...

Re: Regarding incremental backup and restore

Hi, what sesam restores, depends on your selection in the restore wizzard. In step 3. select the inc saveset Type I . 1) At the bottom of the table you can see, per default the "Generation restore" is checked. In this case the complete chain from the last full to the selected inc is used as source f...

Re: Not able to browse the resources (EXT3 , btrfs) volumes

Hi,

the "Novell Services" -> "<server name>.Linux(Netware) File System>" backup type is restricted to NSS File System volumes.

For back up NCP volumes on native Linux filesystems (ext3, reiserfs etc) use the "path" backup type.

Re: Using a Remote Device Server

Hi Ken, I think a backup of the backup isn't the best idea. The question is, what would you like to do with the offsite data ? Most time this copy is for disaster recovery. How fast or slow is your connection between your locations ? Is a backup and restore over this connection possible ? If yes: - ...

Re: E009-Backup Error USB Drive

Hi, if the test backup fails, you have a problem in generally. You can find any hints in: /var/opt/sesam/var/log/lgc/sm_setup* Check name resolution: /opt/sesam/bin/sesam/sm_setup check_resolution <sesam srv name> Disable firewall ( if enabled ), running SE Linux is not supported. Or you can open an...

Re: "Computer is currently not reachable" errors for OES2 se

Hi Ian,

when a sesam backup starts, the process try to connect to the client or the datamover on port 11301 (control port). This is hard coded, a kind of "keep alive".
The solution for your issue is, use a datamover with more resources or use more then one datamover server.

Re: E009-Backup Error USB Drive

Hi, please read this document and compare your configuration http://wiki.sepsoftware.com/wiki/index.php/The_DataStore_4.2 The DataStore use partition information to check, if there is enough space. The best practice is, to use one partition for one DataStore. No other data on this partition. I think...
