SEP - throttling a backup

SEP Sesam 4.4.3
Data Store (external NAS mounted with 10GB links) on SLES 11 SP4 KVM host

The SEP backup will take a lot of resources during the backup period causing some VMs to become very slow to the point of seeming unresponsive, ie: the MS SQL VM server, Mail VM server, File VM server.

Is there a way to throttle the backup so it doesn't take resources (CPU, bandwidth, etc)? It's OK for the backups to take a longer time so that the VMs are less affected.

Would the Drive, Max channels help? I mean less Max channels?

Thank you.

So Not Throteling on Sep Sesam then.

After some investigation, we have several other scheduled procedures going on at the same time as the backup. Disabled the backup for a week and the VMs did not exhibit slowness as when the SEP backup were running. Changed the time of the backups to 1.5 hrs later and now the VMs do not exhibit slowness. So rescheduling the SEP backup time worked for our environment.
