Vsphere / LAN-free

Post by mcgyver » April 18th, 2013, 11:00 am

Hi,
in the German WiKi (not in the English one) there's the following statement
http://wiki.sepsoftware.com/wiki/index. ... I#Optionen

--snip--
Wenn der SEP sesam Server als DataMover eingesetzt werden soll, muss er auf einem Windows-Betriebssystem laufen
--snip--

roughly translated ...
"If the SEP Sesam server shall be used as datamover it HAS TO run on a Windows OS"

I'd assume this to be a temporary limitation which will fade if VMWare finally fixes their 5.1 disklibs on Linux. Is this true?

Also, if someone would like to a have a LAN-free Vsphere backup with Sesam TODAY, is it true that he'd need either

- the Sesam server running on Windows (with disklibs)
or (in case of an existing Sesam server on Linux)
- a Windows box connected to the SAN, running the disklibs and acting as datamover AND remote device server

Hello,

Yes, you are right.

Yes, it's a temporary limitation.

Also, if someone would like to a have a LAN-free Vsphere backup with Sesam TODAY, is it true that he'd need either

- the Sesam server running on Windows (with disklibs)

Yes, and access to the VMWare LUNs like your ESX servers.

or (in case of an existing Sesam server on Linux)
- a Windows box connected to the SAN, running the disklibs and acting as datamover AND remote device server

Yes.
