enable to start gui (java error message)

Post by ad63810 » May 5th, 2009, 10:45 am

Hello,

I installed Sep sesam on an ubtuntu 8.10, I had no errors during the installation,
but when I try to start the gui (sesam_gui), I receive the error message below :

6-openjdk/jre/lib/i386/xawt/libmawt.so

Could not find the main class: de.sep.sesam.gui.client.Frame. Program will exit.

The result of "java -version" is :

java version "1.6.0_0"
IcedTea6 1.3.1 (6b12-0ubuntu6.4) Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_0-b12)
OpenJDK Client VM (build 1.6.0_0-b12, mixed mode, sharing)

Any idea ?

Hy,

check the java-link in /opt/sesam/bin/sesam
You should see something like this:
/opt/sesam/bin/sesam# ls -l |grep java
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 36 2008-04-17 20:46 java -> /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/bin/java

This java-link has to be correct. You have to adjust it. As far as I know, Sun-Java is recommended.
You can check the java-link with:
/opt/sesam/bin/sesam# ./java -version

It is very important to use ./, either you use the system java.

Hy,

execute the command

Code: Select all

/opt/sesam/bin/sesam/sm_main status
and check, whether all daemons are online. If the RMI daemon is offline, there could be a problem with Java.

Please have a look with:

Code: Select all

netstat -planet
whether the port 11401 is in use by another application. Further the output from

Code: Select all

/opt/sesam/bin/sesam/java -version
should bring the same result the output looks like from your last post regarding java -version.

Greetings, Florian

Hy,

you have to use Sun-Java instead of IBM-Java. Probably some classes are not equal and that's why the GUI server does not start.
