Newbie questions

Post by Dimerson » October 15th, 2010, 10:04 am

Our company plans use SEP Sesam. It is planned to carry out reserve copying of server Novell OES2 x86-64. If copying is made without use TSAFS (Backup Type: Path Backup), speed of copying - 200GB/h (both on a disk and on LTO-4 a tape). In case of copying through TSA (Backup Type: NSS FileSystem) speed nearby 30 GB/b that is not enough. Change of parametres tsafs.nlm
readthreadsperjob=32
cachingmode=disable
readbuffersize=262144
Problem does not solve - speed increases to 80 GB/b a maximum.

From here the first question: the given productivity it is normal for TSA?

Fortunately, it has been by practical consideration found out that SEP Sesam supports copying extended attributes (novell.metadata) Novell through xattr (the rights to files and info about the owner etc are copied successfully through PathBackup) :D . Therefore if there is no necessity for copying GroupWise, use TSA not is it is necessary.

The second question: support xattr (has not found it in the documentation) whether will remain in the next versions Client for Linux x86 and x86_64?

Hy,

the given speed of TSA is known and this is a problem of Novell itself.

You can backup the Novell trustees, when adjusting the settings for the xattr and using a current version of SEP sesam.

Hi,

you can use the community edition of SEP sesam, which is free, but without support. Take a look at this link to get more information:
