Pre and Post Actions for Windows Clients

Post by kkronfli » December 11th, 2012, 11:33 am

Hi all, I have just spent a fair amount of time figuring out how to get the pre and post backup action working correctly on a windows client. so I thought I would post my instructions which will hopefully make it into a howto on the admin guide as it is tricky to understand what is required unless you know specifically which bit of the admin guide to read.

HOWTO Apply Pre and Post backup actions to a windows client

e.g. stop and start a database service

Source Documentation location

Here is a step by step explanation of howto apply pre and post actions to a windows client

1: In the SEP Sesam Admin GUI, "Tasks by Clients" view; select the specific dataset task you need to apply "pre" and or "post" scripts to.

2: Right Click and select Properties

3: In the "Options 1" tab in the "Backup" box, tick Execute pre and\or Execute post as required.

Then on the client machine

4: Assuming the SEP Sesam Client is installed on the C: Drive take a copy of

sbc_pre.cmd and sbc_post.cmd from

C:\Program Files\SEPsesam\skel\templates

to

C:\Program Files\SEPsesam\bin\sesam

5: Edit the files in C:\Program Files\SEPsesam\bin\sesam

and add the relevant commands after the "insert here" rem statements

into whichever files they need to go into

e.g. sbc_pre.cmd

rem === please insert here your specific actions before backup ===================

net stop "Name of Database Service"

e.g. sbc_post.cmd

rem === Please insert your specific actions here =====================================

net start "Name of Database Service"

>>>>>

In addition might I suggest in the next version the rem statement in the sbc_post.cmd template file is edited to this

rem === please insert here your specific actions after backup ===================

making it consistent with the sbc_pre.cmd template file
